ALBAWABA – Gloria Steinem, a feminist who is one of the major faces of the women’s liberation movement in the United States, passed away at the age of 92, her foundation announced Thursday.
In a post on Instagram, Gloria Steinem’s foundation revealed that the journalist “passed away peacefully” inside her home in New York City, “surrounded by many who loved her”.

Steinem is well-known as a leader, icon, and prominent spokeswoman for the second-wave feminist movement in the U.S. during the late 1960s and 1970s.
BBC reported that she was a writer and magazine editor and co-founded the Women’s Action Alliance, a group dedicated to fighting sexism, more than 50 years ago.
Gloria Steinem started her career as a journalist in New York in the 1970s and went on to co-found Ms. magazine, one of the first publications to focus on other women’s issues than the perils of housekeeping and the mandates of the beauty industry.
She celebrated the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in the case of Roe v Wade in 1973, which granted women the constitutional right to abortion.
